Join us for a night of smooth jazz and a bit of funkiness that only jazz musicians can provide! The Apponequet Jazz Combo musicians are rising stars in the music world and October 3rd will be your chance to experience their unique talents…
Evan Field is a senior at Apponequet. Originally recruited and trained by founder, Sam Markson, this is Evan’s third and final year as a member of the Apponequet Jazz Combo. Evan spends much of his time learning to play new instruments and has been playing the saxophone for seven years. Evan is a founding member of the Apponequet Barbershop Quartet and is also the current valedictorian of the class of 2010.
Jake Slater has been involved with the Apponequet Jazz Combo since February 2008. Jake’s
talents have added a more fusion-edge to its refined repertoire of jazz standards and favorites. He fills the roles of both guitarist and bassist. In his four years playing, both his technical prowess and “inherent funkiness” have increased and improved. Jake is currently a junior at Apponequet and devotes his time to studying and synthesizing various musical styles.
Chris Godden is a Junior at Apponequet Regional High School. He is the current drummer in the student-run Apponequet Jazz Combo. His life is filled with music and friends, whether it be Jazz Ensemble at school, Select Choral Groups, or playing with one of his three bands. He plays a wide variety of musical instruments, including the drums, guitar, trumpet, euphonium (baritone horn), saxophone and aspires to be a music education major.
Join us on Saturday, February 6, 2010 from 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM for what is sure to be an unforgettable evening of music, food, friends and laughter!

It’s cooked to your specifications with all fresh sides. Throw in a nice glass of wine or cold beer and you’ve got a great way to wrap up the work week and start enjoying the weekend!
What an unbelievable night at Flat Iron Cafe and Everett Square in Middleboro, Massachusetts! State Senator, Scott Brown, who is running for the United States Senate held a rally in Everett Square and then came into Flat Iron Cafe. The turnout of supporters, fans and the just plain curious was amazing. Hundreds of people filled Everett Square to hear Senator Brown speak and then have their picture taken with him.
The excitement began when the Bold New Leadership Tour Bus arrived in Everett Square. Hundreds of people stood in the damp cold to greet the bus. Everyone inside Flat Iron Cafe knew that Senator Brown had emerged from the bus when they heard the crowd roar in excitement.
Senator Brown stood and addressed the outside crowd for about 15 minutes before making his way to the restaurant.
While Senator Brown was speaking to the crowd outside, Middleboro Selectman Steve McKinnon addressed the crowd inside Flat Iron Cafe. Along with others, Steve got the crowd ready and by the time Senator Brown entered our little restaurant, everyone – young, old and in between – was ready to hear what he had to say.
Flat Iron Cafe wants to thank Selectman McKinnon for arranging to hold this event in Middleboro. This was a terrific and positive spotlight on our town. We also want to thank Middleboro’s Police and Fire Departments for keeping everyone safe and secure during this event and insuring that everyone had a great time.
We also want to give a huge shoutout and THANK YOU to Flat Iron Cafe’s staff! Our cooks and servers cranked out great food with great service in a restaurant that was filled to capacity. Over and over again, as people were leaving for the evening, we heard how terrific our staff is and what a great time everyone had. We have the best people working at Flat Iron Cafe and we are so proud of them!
We also want to give a big thank you to John, Rene, Dave and the countless other customers who helped out last night. From standing at the doors to help with crowd control, keeping the aisles clear and safe, helping Scott Brown’s campaign get setup – everyone pitched in and had a hand in making last night a true success!
Finally, we want to say thank you to the media that came to the event. From the Middleboro Gazette to The Enterprise and Fox News and WHDH-TV, thank you for the awesome coverage you provided of this event. It is always a pleasure working with all of you.
Enjoy these preliminary pictures from last night’s event. NJ Photo of Middleboro was Flat Iron Cafe’s official photographer of the events and we will be posting their pictures as soon as we get them.
Thank you to everyone who gathered in Middleboro last night! Whether you support Scott Brown, Martha Coakley or Joe Kennedy, the important thing now is to get out and vote on Tuesday, January 19, 2010! See you at the polls!

Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 8:00 PM marks the debut of Paul “Sully” Sullivan at Flat Iron Café!
Sully started his musical career as the drummer in a variety of bands playing an eclectic mix of music ranging from reggae to jazz to rock and country. After a while, he realized that he is a pretty good singer too so he sold his drums and forged ahead with a singing career.
Sully is bringing a mix of country, folk and rock to Flat Iron Café this weekend. He has played in the usual suspect places of bars, restaurants and barbecue joints but really honed his talent in Nashville, Tennessee playing with the folks who have jammed with country greats like Vince Gill and Merle Haggard.
Paul “Sully” Sullivan is originally from the North Shore of Boston, but has lived many places in the last 25 years. He is relatively new to the Middleboro area and has quickly fallen in love with the community. He is looking forward to making new friends and showing off his unique musical styling on Saturday night.
Saturday is not only live entertainment night at Flat Iron Café but we also offer half-price pizza from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM. It simply doesn’t get any better than a Saturday night at Flat Iron Café. The entire crowd can eat, relax and enjoy some great music all without leaving Middleboro! Bring the family… bring your date… bring your friends and join us on Saturday, January 16, 2010 from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM to meet Paul “Sully” Sullivan and listen to some terrific country, rock, folk and more.
