Wal Man’s entertainment career started when he debuted on TV’s “Bozo’s Big Top” as a precocious 6 year old. He was a new face; bright, young and talented. Needless to say, he was a hit! His success on Bozo lead to appearances on “The Rex Trailer Show”, Major Mud and Mr. Bubbles commercials (he was the kid in the tub). But people really sat up and took notice when he appeared on channel 38′s “Willy Whistle Show”. Wal knew he had hit the big time!

His music has carried him through tough times and he has become a powerful songwriter and performer. When he comes to play, it’s quite a show! You can find more information about Wal at www.myspace.com/thisiswalman. Wal Man will be performing at Flat Iron Café on Saturday, December 18, 2010 from 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM. It simply doesn’t get any better than a Saturday night at Flat Iron Café. The entire crowd can eat, relax and enjoy some great music all without leaving Middleboro! Bring the family… bring your date… bring your friends and join us on Saturday, December 18, 2010 from 7:30 to 10:30 PM to meet Wal Man and enjoy a musical experience unlike any other!

Bill Mulligan

Bill Mulligan

On Saturday, December 11, 2010 Bill Mulligan Returns To Flat Iron Cafe!

If you were anywhere near Stonehill College in the 1960s, you might remember Bill Mulligan. He was a member of the Country Squires, an energetic folk group which make a name for itself at colleges, high schools and hootenannies. After graduation, Bill continued performing weekends and summers while pursuing a teaching career; a career he then gave up in 1972 to pursue his dreams of entertaining people on a full-time basis.  Three years after making that decision, Bill teamed up with former band member, Mike Couto. Mike and Bill were tremendously popular on the South Coast, Cape Cod and in Newport, Rhode Island. They also entertained the locals and the tourists in Florida on the cruise ship, The Spirit of Tampa.

Over the years, Bill has developed his own relaxed style of entertaining. To his singing and guitar-playing he adds a warm sense of humor while performing a wide range of music including standard favorites, oldies but goodies, folk and Irish music and easy rock. Bill has quickly become Flat Iron Café’s most popular performer. He has quickly won over young and old alike with his quick wit, fast fingers and easy harmonies.

Due to a cancellation from Flat Iron Café’s previously scheduled performer, Bill has graciously offered to appear for the second week in a row at the restaurant. Along with this surprise repeat performance, Flat Iron Café also has half-price pizza from 4:00 PM to 10:30 PM on Saturday. It simply doesn’t get any better than a Saturday night at Flat Iron Café. The entire crowd can eat, relax and enjoy some great music all without leaving Middleboro! Bring the family… bring your date… bring your friends and join us on Saturday, December 11, 2010 from 7:30 to 10:30 PM to meet Bill and listen to the music you remember from your childhood, your rebellious teenage years, your roaring 20’s and beyond.

Born in Weymouth, Massachusetts, Garry began playing guitar with the youth group at Old South Union church. Many years of writing have passed since then; his specialty being lots of classic deep dish rock music liberally mixed in with original material with an emphasis on “hippie music” and vocal cavorting. Lately he has been singing with established folk artist, Stuart Ferguson and percussion wizard, Phil Punch, at the Chili Head as well as hitting open mikes around the area.

A graduate of Bridgewater State College, Garry is blessed with a beautiful wife and two great kids. He is thoroughly enjoying the advantages that today’s technology innovations offer in helping him get his music out there and spending time performing in front of appreciative audiences.

Garry will also be joined by Tim Doherty and even promises that there may be some surprise appearances by other local Middleboro music legends. Join Garry and friends at Flat Iron Café – located at 444 Centre Street in Middleboro – on Saturday, November 20, 2010 from 7:30 to 10:30 PM for what’s sure to be a great night of great music, food and friends. And, as always, while you’re listening to some terrific rock and roll, you can enjoy Flat Iron’s famous pizza at half the usual cost. Remember – there’s never a cover charge for Flat Iron Café’s Saturday night concerts, so come on in and enjoy!

Whether seated or standing before an audience, Laura James’ approach to music is pure passion. This passion started in Plymouth, Massachusetts where she grew up listening to The Supremes, The Drifters, Etta James and especially, The Platters. Her big break in music came in the early 1990s while performing in Quincy, Massachusetts when Herb Reed and The Platters crew heard her singing Natalie Cole’s “Unforgettable.” That chance encounter led to a tour with the band, performing throughout the United States. She finished her tour with The Platters in 1994 and struck out on her own. She now performs all over Massachusetts.

While on tour with The Platters, Ms. James also shared the stage with many popular artists including Mary Wilson of The Supremes, Dion and The Belmonts, The Drifters, The Marvelletts, and Paul Revere and The Raiders. Recently, Ms. James performed at Oak Point Homes in Middleboro and at a breast cancer fundraiser at the VFW. She will be appearing at Flat Iron Café on Saturday, November 13, 2010 from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm and will be singing your favorite music from the ‘50s and ‘60s.

This is a do-not-miss special event at Flat Iron! The music starts at 7:30PM on Saturday, November 13, 2010. As always, there is never a cover charge so come on in to enjoy some great music and half-price pizza!

Here at Flat Iron Cafe, we are busy, busy, busy preparing for Halloween. It’s our favorite time of the year and there is lots going on!

First up is the Middleboro Friends 3rd Annual Halloween Ball. This year’s theme is “The Haunted Mansion.” Middleboro Friends take weeks decorating the Town Hall; the outside, the entrance, the stairs leading up to the ballroom and the ballroom itself. There will be music by a D.J., a cash bar and, of course, light refreshments from Flat Iron Cafe! The Halloween Ball runs from 7 p.m. to midnight, Saturday, October 30th. The cost is $15 each, $25 a couple, or $20 at the door and you can purchase tickets here at the restaurant.

Also on October 30th, Flat Iron Cafe is hosting it’s own ghoulish evening.

Jimmy Peters

We have the world-famous Jimmy Peters coming in to entertain and amaze you. He will also be emceeing our 2nd Annual Halloween Costume Contest! Last year, Brandon and

Juliet & Brandon as Debi & Tom: Or is it?

Juliet stunned and amazed the crowd with their eerie impersonation of Flat Iron Cafe owners – Tom and Debi. We’re not sure how they’re going to top themselves this year, but we have it on good authority that they are looking to win this contest for the second year in a row.

The winner of this year’s Halloween Costume Contest at Flat Iron Cafe will win a $25 gift certificate to the restaurant AND  you’ll be honored on our website and Facebook Fan Page! Don’t sit back and let Brandon and Juliet win this contest again!

The music, events and half-price pizza all start at 7:30PM on Saturday, October 30, 2010! See you there!

Rob Reid, Chris Darby and friends are scheduled to perform at Everett Square’s own Flat Iron Café to provide and unforgettable night of music

For one night only, Flat Iron Café is pleased to announce that we have a special night of musical entertainment planned for Saturday, October 2, 2010. The headline acts for Saturday night are Rob Reid and Chris Darby but they will also be joined by Marcy Gregoire and James Musselman. All four musicians bring a little something different to Middleboro and are looking forward to having a full-fledged jam session at Flat Iron Café.

Rob Reid

Originally from Mattapoisett and now living in Chicago, Rob Reid is a musical salad bowl in which influences from distant lands (Mali, India, Brazil) mix with influences from the distant past (classic jazz, doo-wop, Americana). The result is a unique and eclectic backdrop for his songs, which tell stories about real and fictional characters involved in such endeavors as riding public transit in West Africa, surviving lightning strikes, and holding up banks. When performing live, Rob often uses a looping station to layer percussion, vocal harmonies, guitar, and kitchenware. Though lacking basic driving skills and completely devoid of road sense, Rob has brought his solo act out to well over a hundred shows at venues ranging from coffee shops to restaurants, and from farmers markets to neighborhood taverns. More information about Rob can be found on his website – http://reliablerascal.com/.

Chris Darby

Born in rural Missouri and living most recently in Chicago, Chris Darby is a folk musician whose true home is anywhere his music takes him. Though his singing sometimes reaches the ferocious roar of a territorial lion and other times sinks to the gentle whisper of a wise sage, his vocal style embodies a rare emotional honesty which captures the full range and depth of his life experience. Likewise, his dynamic guitar playing gracefully shifts between hypnotic arpeggios and the building crescendo of an oncoming train. With several albums from his folk band Them Damn Kids behind him, he hit the road as a solo artist in July 2010. More information about Chris can be found on his MySpace page – http://www.myspace.com/chrisdarby.
Originally from Mattapoisett but now living in the western part of Massachusetts, Marcy Gregoire is a professional children’s musician who also has a phenomenal repertoire of music that adults love. Earlier this year, Marcy performed at Amherst, Massachusetts first Sustainability Festival.

James Musselman is the founder of the band Longsleeves and is currently on a national tour with his solo work. Born and raised in Northeastern Ohio, James started playing guitar (in addition to the cello) and writing music at age thirteen and began experimenting with recording music on a computer and attempting software based music creation shortly after that. James currently resides in San Diego, California and his song-writing has often been compared to Radiohead, Neil Young, Beck and Sigur Rós.

This is a do-not-miss special event at Flat Iron Café and we hope everyone will come in for this unique opportunity to hear from four very different musicians. The music starts at 7:30PM on Saturday, October 2, 2010. As always, there is never a cover charge so come on in to enjoy some great music and half-price pizza!

We’re going to be experimenting with something new for tonight’s show! We are going to be live broadcasting – on Ustream.TV – one song from each of the folks who are appearing tonight! So, if you can’t make the show, you can get a taste of what’s it like to be here on Saturday night!

Hank Williams and Johnny Cash may be gone from this world, but their music will live forever. On Saturday, August 28, 2010, from 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM, Flat Iron Café presents two new performers in their lineup of musicians for their Saturday Night Music Series.

Larry Mignault and John Owens keep the memories – and the music – of the great, traditional Country and Western singers alive with their unique style and infectious melodies. Larry is a seasoned performer who grew up in Brockton, Massachusetts but now calls Bourne, Massachusetts his home. John is a multi-faceted guitarist who hails from Canton, Massachusetts. They have performed at the Middleboro Farmers Market, Carver’s Farmers Market and many other venues around Southeastern Massachusetts. Larry and John are country music purists – preferring the stylings of Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash and Hank Williams over today’s more contemporary pop/rock music.

Join Larry Mignault, John Owens and other country western music fanatics at Flat Iron Café on Saturday, August 28, 2010 from 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM. As always, there is never a cover charge at Flat Iron Café… just great food, good music and a terrific place to hang out on a Saturday night!
