On December 2, 2009 the Kiwanis Club, the Middleboro High School Key Club and the Nichols Middle School Builders Club are sponsoring a “Eat to Heat” event at the Middleboro Council on Aging Center.
The Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community, at a time. This year’s event includes the raffle of a “giving tree” that will raise funds to go towards scholarships for local student and/or sponsor a family in need this holiday season.
To purchase a ticket, call Key Club advisor Pat Bettencourt at 508.946.2010, extension 104. Tickets can also be purchased from Kiwanis President Sonya Gallo, at the Mayflower Cooperative Bank or at the Council on Aging.
Flat Iron Cafe is just one of many local businesses that has donated items for the “Eat to Heat” raffle event. Please join us in supporting this terrific organization that provides support to many of your neighbors and friends.

On Saturday, December 5, 2009 Flat Iron Café is bringing you a night of nostalgic musical entertainment!
If you were anywhere near Stonehill College in the 1960s, you might remember Bill Mulligan. He was a member of the Country Squires, an energetic folk group which make a name for itself at colleges, high schools and hootenannies. After graduation, Bill continued performing weekends and summers while pursuing a teaching career; a career he then gave up in 1972 to pursue his dreams of entertaining people on a full-time basis. Three years after making that decision, Bill teamed up with former band member, Mike Couto. Mike and Bill were tremendously popular on the South Coast, Cape Cod and in Newport, Rhode Island. They also entertained the locals and the tourists in Florida on the cruise ship, The Spirit of Tampa.
Over the years, Bill has developed his own relaxed style of entertaining. To his singing and guitar-playing he adds a warm sense of humor while performing a wide range of music including standard favorites, oldies but goodies, folk and Irish music and easy rock. Bill has quickly become Flat Iron Café’s most popular performer. He has quickly won over young and old alike with his quick wit, fast fingers and easy harmonies.
Not only is Bill performing live on Saturday night but we also have half-price pizza from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM on Saturdays. It simply doesn’t get any better than a Saturday night at Flat Iron Café. The entire crowd can eat, relax and enjoy some great music all without leaving Middleboro! Bring the family… bring your date… bring your friends and join us on Saturday, December 5, 2009 from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM to meet Bill and listen to the music you remember from your childhood, your rebellious teenage years, your roaring 20’s and beyond. We think you’ll agree… he’s as terrific as our pizza!
