On Saturday, December 5, 2009 Flat Iron Café is bringing you a night of nostalgic musical entertainment!
If you were anywhere near Stonehill College in the 1960s, you might remember Bill Mulligan. He was a member of the Country Squires, an energetic folk group which make a name for itself at colleges, high schools and hootenannies. After graduation, Bill continued performing weekends and summers while pursuing a teaching career; a career he then gave up in 1972 to pursue his dreams of entertaining people on a full-time basis. Three years after making that decision, Bill teamed up with former band member, Mike Couto. Mike and Bill were tremendously popular on the South Coast, Cape Cod and in Newport, Rhode Island. They also entertained the locals and the tourists in Florida on the cruise ship, The Spirit of Tampa.
Over the years, Bill has developed his own relaxed style of entertaining. To his singing and guitar-playing he adds a warm sense of humor while performing a wide range of music including standard favorites, oldies but goodies, folk and Irish music and easy rock. Bill has quickly become Flat Iron Café’s most popular performer. He has quickly won over young and old alike with his quick wit, fast fingers and easy harmonies.
Not only is Bill performing live on Saturday night but we also have half-price pizza from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM on Saturdays. It simply doesn’t get any better than a Saturday night at Flat Iron Café. The entire crowd can eat, relax and enjoy some great music all without leaving Middleboro! Bring the family… bring your date… bring your friends and join us on Saturday, December 5, 2009 from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM to meet Bill and listen to the music you remember from your childhood, your rebellious teenage years, your roaring 20’s and beyond. We think you’ll agree… he’s as terrific as our pizza!

Cheryle Correa Biography
Born in Plymouth, Massachusetts and the oldest of six children, Cheryle grew up needing to be the center of attention. This was her driving force to always be performing — singing, dancing, acting or writing music.
Following high school, Cheryle was hired to be the instructor/choreographer for Plymouth-Carver High majorettes and marching girls. During the time she was an instructor for the P-C majorettes and marching girl units, the group marched in The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade in New York City, The Tournament of Roses parade in California and The Orange Bowl Parade in Florida. After being cast in the role of Mary Magdalene for Priscilla Beach Theater’s production of Jesus Christ Superstar, she was chosen to be the vocal coach for the children’s theater group. Cheryle then joined a prominent Gospel singing group called New England Gospel, which was one of the most popular traditional/contemporary Gospel singing groups in the New England and New York region during the early 1980s. Cheryle wrote five of the songs that were included on the group’s album: “A Touch of New England Gospel.”
In 1981 Cheryle received a Grammy nomination for “Best Contemporary Gospel Performance.” She joined The Recording Academy (NARAS), and became affiliated with BMI as a songwriter. After New England Gospel disbanded, Cheryle began singing lead with various types of cover bands. Cheryle has performed every style of music including gospel, pop, rock, blues and country. In 2002 she released her first full-length country album, which comprised of all original songs written by Cheryle. The “I Keep Dreaming” CD has done well for Cheryle including winning her an honorable mention award in 2003 from Billboard Magazine for country songwriter and Grammy entry nominations for singles released off the CD in 2003, 2004 & 2005.
In 2003, Cheryle moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue a full-time career as a singer/songwriter. She performed regularly in Nashville honky tonks and concert halls including: Legends Corner, Bluegrass Inn and Roberts. In January 2005, Cheryle had the opportunity to appear as an extra in the Toby Keith video “Honky Tonk U.” In 2005, Cheryle was a trophy winning finalist in the “Sonic Search for A Star Competition” – held in Franklin, Tennessee. She was also an opening act for country legend, Kathy Mattea. Samples of Cheryle’s music can be found at http://www.myspace.com/cherylebcorrea.

Kenny Cieplik sits outside the Flat Iron Cafe in Middleboro with his mother, Paula Cieplik.
The Thursday, November 26, 2009 edition of The Enterprise has a terrific article about Kenny Cieplik and blog — www.thetravelingwheelchair.com. It’s an excellent article about the challenges that disabled Americans face every day and Flat Iron Cafe is proud that Kenny chose our restaurant as the location for the interview with Alice Elwell from The Enterprise.
We had a great time hosting Kenny and his group while they talked about the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act and how The Traveling Wheelchair blog is making its own contributions to raising awareness and educating the general public.
In June of 2009, Flat Iron Cafe received four stars (out of five) for our handicapped accessibility. You can read Kenny’s review of our restaurant on his web site at: http://thetravelingwheelchair.com/flat-iron-cafe-in-middleboro/. You can also read more about Kenny in a column from the Middleborough Gazette written by Mark Belanger.
Thank you to the Ciepliks for their continuing efforts to inform and educate all of us! Flat Iron Cafe is proud that they are regular customers and grateful for their kind words about our restaurant. Keep up the good work, Kenny!

From all of us at Flat Iron Cafe, we wish you a very happy Thanksgiving Day.

Future Of Middleborough Trust 500-Piece Puzzles!
The Future of Middleborough Trust (FOMT) was formed in 2008 by a group of concerned citizens is now a tax-exempt charitable organization. The mission of FOMT is to work help the people of Middleborough stay safe and and enjoy our wonderful community.
Middleborough has a diverse population and rich history. But we also have rising numbers of incidences of illnesses like autism, Alzheimers, Downs Syndrome and other maladies. One of the side effects of these illnesses is the tendency of the patient to wander off and become disoriented and lost.
With this in mind, FOMT’s first project is the implementation of PROJECT LIFESAVER in the Town of Middleborough. In order to implement PROJECT LIFESAVER, the Future of Middleborough Trust is raising money with the sale of a 500-piece jigsaw puzzle.
The puzzle is a beautiful photograph, taken in May 2005, of Middleborough’s Veterans Memorial Park with our historic – and possibly haunted? – town hall in the background. The puzzles are $15.00 a piece and make the perfect gift for the puzzle fanatics in your circle of friends and family.
Flat Iron Cafe is proud to be helping FOTM with the sale of these puzzles in our store. We have a puzzle displayed inside the restaurant, so be sure to stop by and take a look. Once you’re ready to buy – and in the process, support this phenomenal effort by FOTM – come on in! All proceeds from the puzzle sales will go directly to the Future of Middleborough Trust and PROJECT LIFESAVER!

“World Tour” may be a stretch right now but Flat Iron Café is thrilled to present a new performer in our line-up of Saturday night musical performances.
Mark Belanger plays an eclectic mix of bluegrass, old time, folk, rock, and pop covers with a bit of original material thrown in. He started of playing in South Shore rock bands in the late 70’s and 80’s before migrating to bluegrass and old time music in more recent years. He is currently playing with the bluegrass quartet Laughing Grass and the NayBob’s – a two to three piece group that plays a wider mix of material.
This will be a solo acoustic gig – something that is a bit new to Mark. He will be playing a mix of old time, bluegrass and folk as well as deep cuts from bands like The Beatles, Warren Zevon, Tom Waits, and a smattering of original music.
Join Mark and his growing flock of groupies at Flat Iron Café – located at 444 Centre Street in Middleboro – on Saturday, November 21, 2009 from 8:00 pm to 11:00 PM for what’s sure to be a great night of great music, food and friends.
Tonight, Flat Iron Cafe will be one of six restaurants participating in a charity wine show and tasting event at the Middleboro Elks!
We are bringing our famous broccoli salad. Join us, the Middleboro Elks and Muckey’s Liquors tonight from 5:30 pm to 8:30pm. There will be over 100 wines to sample and six restaurants in total giving you a taste of their fabulous food! There will also be lots of raffles going on so you need to come on in and help us raise money for a local charity.

Tyler Sanford
On November 7, 2009, Tyler Sanford will be performing live at Farrar’s Flat Iron Café from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Tyler is a new and unique addition to Flat Iron Café’s roster of local musicians.
“The music industry isn’t just gonna come knockin’ on your door.” Tyler remembers his mother saying those words to him one day, while discussing his progress as a musician. Tyler began recording music in 2004, secure in the knowledge that he has a special talent and something to offer up to the world of music. What makes him different from the countless others attempting to make names for themselves? For one, his goal is not to be a “hit machine.” He refuses to compromise his talent in order to impress the music-buying world. He writes what he likes to write, and if it makes an impression, then Tyler believes that he has done more than what was originally attempted. Comparing Tyler to any particular artist is inaccurate, because he doesn’t sound like any artist out there. However, his influences are Mike Tramp, Neil Young, Don Dokken, and other similar classic rock vocalists. He classifies his music as “lyrical pop;” pop music that has stories behind it. Up until now, he has been more of a songwriter than a performer, but he is now starting to reach out to audiences across Southeastern Massachusetts.
Born in Plymouth, Massachusetts and currently a student at Bridgewater State College, Flat Iron Café is thrilled to be debuting this talented singer/songwriter. Be sure to join us on Saturday, November 7, 2009 from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM for a night of unforgettable original music with good friends and great food!
