About Cheryle Correa

Born in Plymouth, Massachusetts and the oldest of six children, Cheryle grew up needing to be the center of attention. This was her driving force to always be performing — singing, dancing, acting or writing music.

Following high school, Cheryle was hired to be the instructor/choreographer for Plymouth-Carver High majorettes and marching girls.  During the time she was an instructor for the P-C majorettes and marching girl units, the group marched in The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade in New York City, The Tournament of Roses parade in California and The Orange Bowl Parade in Florida. After being cast in the role of Mary Magdalene for Priscilla Beach Theater’s production of Jesus Christ Superstar, she was chosen to be the vocal coach for the children’s theater group. Cheryle then joined a prominent Gospel singing group called New England Gospel, which was one of the most popular traditional/contemporary Gospel singing groups in the New England and New York region during the early 1980s.  Cheryle wrote five of the songs that were included on the group’s album: “A Touch of New England Gospel.”

In 1981 Cheryle received a Grammy nomination for “Best Contemporary Gospel Performance.” She joined The Recording Academy (NARAS), and became affiliated with BMI as a songwriter.  After New England Gospel disbanded, Cheryle began singing lead with various types of cover bands.  Cheryle has performed every style of music including gospel, pop, rock, blues and country. In 2002 she released her first full-length country album, which comprised of all original songs written by Cheryle. The “I Keep Dreaming” CD has done well for Cheryle including winning her an honorable mention award in 2003 from Billboard Magazine for country songwriter and Grammy entry nominations for singles released off the CD in 2003, 2004 & 2005.

In 2003, Cheryle moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue a full-time career as a singer/songwriter. She performed regularly in Nashville honky tonks and concert halls including: Legends Corner, Bluegrass Inn and Roberts.  In January 2005, Cheryle had the opportunity to appear as an extra in the Toby Keith video “Honky Tonk U.”  In 2005, Cheryle was a trophy winning finalist in the “Sonic Search for A Star Competition” – held in Franklin, Tennessee.  She was also an opening act for country legend, Kathy Mattea.
